# Upload footage to Guin

> Which files Guin accepts, the size limits, how to add footage, and what the processing states mean.

Send Guin what you filmed as it is. You do not need to trim, rename, or organize files first, and you do not need one long video to slice up. A handful of scattered clips from a shoot day works.

## What you can upload

|                        |                                                                     |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **File types** | MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, MXF |
| **Maximum file size** | 10 GB per file |
| **Maximum resolution** | 4K. Files larger than 4096 pixels on either side are not supported. |
| **At once** | Up to 10 files uploading or processing at the same time |

Phone footage, camera footage, drone footage, and screen captures all work as long as they are in one of these formats.

<Note>
  Photos and audio files, such as voice notes, are coming soon. For now, upload video.

## Add footage

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start from Home, Clip Studio, or the Editor">
    Each of these has a prompt box with an **Upload** button. In the Smart Editor you can also drag files straight onto the page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick your files">
    Choose one file or many. Uploads are resumable, so a dropped connection picks up where it left off. You can cancel or retry a file at any point.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Let Guin prepare them">
    Processing starts as each file finishes uploading. You can write your request while it runs.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To reuse footage you uploaded before, click **Media library** in the prompt box and pick from what is already there.

<Note>
  Footage is added from Home, Clip Studio, or a project. Uploading straight into the Media library page is not available yet.

## Processing states

Each file shows where it is up to.

| State                          | What is happening                                                   |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| *processing footage* | Guin is making a playback copy and pulling out the audio. |
| *transcribing* | Speech is being transcribed with word timing. |
| *analyzing footage* | Guin is watching the visuals and listening to the audio. |
| *finding shots* | Guin is detecting where the camera cuts. |
| **Ready** | The file can be used in Clip Studio and the Smart Editor. |
| *needs reprocessing for clips* | The file needs to be processed again before Clip Studio can use it. |
| *failed* | Something went wrong with this file. Retry the upload. |

Processing time grows with the length of the file. A short phone clip is ready quickly. An hour-long interview takes longer.

## Tips

* **Upload the originals.** 4K exports are rendered from your original files, so better sources give you better exports.
* **Send everything from the shoot.** Guin skips the unusable takes, so you do not have to find them first.
* **Keep audio on.** Guin uses speech for captions and for finding moments. Silent footage still works, but there is less for it to go on.
